What is sex trafficking?
Need to know
Sex trafficking is the forcing of all genders — mainly women and usually very young—into the sex trade against their will, through grooming, luring, brainwashing and coercion.
Does it happen in Lanark County?
It does. Sex trafficking doesn’t happen only in developing nations or big cities. Lanark County is a stop in a trafficking network connecting Windsor, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
The trafficking trade is organized, strategic and evolving. It must be undone in the same way: with organization, strategic planning, and continuing evolution.
Local police take sex trafficking seriously, but there is only so much they can do. What happens to the victims once they escape that life? Where do they go? How do they heal and move on? The Stir It Up Collective was created to fill this gap.
The Collective will deal with the psychological damage done to people who have been trafficked.
